Why become a SHEroes mentor?

Mentoring changes lives — including your own.

As a WWS Mentor, you walk alongside another woman on her leadership journey, sharing wisdom, offering, encouragement, and perspective.

By sharing your voice, your story, and your experience, you help her recognise her strengths, open her aperture to what is possible and empower her to lean in. Together,  define authentic leadership and co-create solutions so she has agency to step forward as a confident agent of change.

What you will gain:

  • A structured program with training, resources, and ongoing support from the Worldwide SHEroes team.

  • Sharpened leadership, coaching, and cross‑cultural skills to take to your own role and organisation.

  • Global exposure through our global sisterhood of mentors and mentees

1. Who can apply to be a mentor? Our Mentors are experienced professionals with mid-level or senior professional experience, or relevant lived experience We welcome women from diverse industry sectors, including community, corporate, academic and civil society, as well as from diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds. This diversity enriches learning, broadens perspectives, and strengthens the impact of the mentoring relationship. We are especially seeking leaders who are willing to share their insights, listen openly, and encourage mentees to reflect and grow with curiosity, respect and without judgement. ---------------------------------------------

2. How much time do I need to commit? Time Commitment: 24–48 hours per year on average 2–4 hours per month during an active cohort over approx. 10 months. This investment of time includes a minimum of 8 mentoring sessions, mentor training, participation in Peer Circles - with our global mentor network and optional program events. ---------------------------------------------

3. Do I need previous mentoring experience? No, not necessarily. Just your willingness to engage, listen, learn and to share your experience in a respectful, culturally sensitive way. We provide mentor training, resources, and ongoing support. ---------------------------------------------

4. How are mentors matched with mentees? We review your expression of interest and registration details -including your experience, sector, interests, skills and background and match you with a mentee from a similar sector whose needs, goals, and aspirations align with your strengths, wherever possible. Note: you will most likely be connected to mentee across a different geography and time zone ---------------------------------------------

5. What support will I receive as a mentor? We invest significantly, in our mentors to ensure a meaningful and impactful experience. You will have access to Mentor Handbook, training webinar(s), and access to the SHEroes Learning Hub which includes session guides, tips, tools, and videos to strengthen your mentoring skills. ---------------------------------------------

6. What are the benefits of becoming a mentor? Mentoring with Worldwide SHEroes offers the opportunity to contribute to a global mission for gender equality by supporting the development of emerging women leaders. Mentors gain fresh perspectives and insights into their sector globally, while strengthening their own leadership, coaching, and reflective thinking skills in a cross-cultural context. What you’ll gain: •A structured program with training, resources, and ongoing support from the Worldwide SHEroes team. •Access to a global sisterhood of mentors and mentees, fostering peer learning, networking, and cross-sector insights. •Sharpened leadership, coaching, and cross-cultural skills that you can apply in your own role and organisation. ---------------------------------------------

7. What if I need to pause or step back? We understand life happens. We ask that you let us know as early as possible - ideally we do not wish to disrupt the mentees growth and engagement, so we may explore options (e.g. rematching, pausing, or adjusting expectations). We run 2 cohorts of mentees a year, you will be approached for your availability before matching occurs each time. ---------------------------------------------

8. What technology do I need to use to mentor? You can meet with your mentee using simple, widely available tools such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom or WhatsApp, depending on what works best for both of you. We encourage you to agree together on your preferred platform and to keep things as accessible and low‑tech as possible. ---------------------------------------------

9. What languages is the program offered in? We currently offer mentoring primarily in English with some mentors able to offer mentoring in French and Portuguese. We do try to take language preferences into account when matching mentors and mentees so that conversations feel natural and comfortable. We welcome mentors who can support mentees in these or other languages. ---------------------------------------------

10. What if I feel stuck with my mentee or something isn’t working? It is completely normal to feel unsure at times in a mentoring relationship. If you feel stuck: •Use our mentor resources including the Mentor Handbook, Questions Library, and SHEroes Learning Hub •Follow the monthly Mentor Moments emails designed to gently guide you in supporting your mentee constructively. •Reach out to the Worldwide SHEroes team for guidance and support. NB: If you lose connection or engagement with your mentee, it is extremely important that you inform the program team immediately so we can provide support and ensure the mentoring relationship remains effective. ---------------------------------------------
